CMS Install team just wrapped up another installation at an orthopedic clinic in New Jersey. The team installed a CoRE Labs Halo OTS, Flora wallstand with fixed 17″X17″ Cesium CPI RadVision DR panel, Atlas E/V table with 14″X17″ wireless Cesium CPI RadVision DR panel, 65kW CPI H/F Generator with long-leg/scoli stitching package.

Built to capture long-length digital images in a single exposure, the FDR D-EVO GL features Fujifilm’s breakthrough Virtual Grid image processing. Depending on the exam type and patient, FDR D-EVO GL with Virtual Grid can produce images with contrast and clarity comparable to exams performed with a physical grid while requiring as little as half the dose.
“Fujifilm’s FDR D-EVO GL detector with Virtual Grid allows technologists to efficiently acquire long-length exams with a single low dose DR exposure, generating high quality images without a grid with as much as 50% lower dose than grid exams1,” said Rob Fabrizio, director of strategic marketing, Digital X-ray and Women’s Health at FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc. “The acquisition speed and dose savings particularly benefits routine patients in acute postoperative pain and pediatric scoliosis patients on whom these tests are performed recurrently.”
FDR D-EVO GL features a 17 x 49″ field of view; its wider format helps improve patient safety and lower dose with fewer repeats from anatomy cutoff. Compared to multiple exposure conventional long length DR imaging, GL’s single exposure improves processes of care and simplifies exam time to improve patient experiences. Long length imaging has been one of the last holdout areas in transitioning to DR due to CR’s single exposure acquisition; compared to CR the FDR D-EVO GL with Virtual Grid processing can lower dose and dramatically shorten time to acquire and display. Capture is instant and 34″ – 49″ images display in 18-24 sec., whereas with CR there is much added time for processing cassettes and imaging plates.
Virtual Grid image processing is a great complement to the FDR D-EVO GL and can be used for all body parts (except for breast imaging). In mobile imaging Virtual Grid gives technologists new flexibility to perform high-quality imaging while eliminating associated grid misalignment artifacts and retakes. It further simplifies positioning by eliminating heavy grid caps and making the detector more comfortable behind the patient. Virtual Grid automatically adapts processing to replicate physical grid use, enhancing image contrast. It also offers automated and selectable grid characteristics to further adapt to site preferences.

1. How will the provisions inserted into the Consolidated Appropriations Act influence healthcare providers?
In December 2015 President Obama signed the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2016. Included in the document is a special rule for diagnostic radiology that incentivizes imaging providers to adopt more advanced X-ray technology by cutting reimbursement to older technology.
Beginning in 2017, claims submitted for X-rays performed on analog equipment will receive a 20% reduction in payment. Additionally, the law phases-in Medicare payment reductions under the hospital outpatient PPS and physician fee schedule technical component for X-rays taken using computed radiography in an effort to encourage wider use of digital radiography.
Starting in 2018 through 2022, payments for X-rays taken using computed radiography will be reduced by 7 percent, with a 10 percent reduction starting in 2023. The majority of hospitals and imaging facilities that do not replace existing systems will face payment reductions.

- Inventory your assets and identify your analog and CR equipment.
- Assess the volume of X-ray procedures performed on equipment affected by the reimbursement reductions to calculate the financial impact to your institution.
- Develop and execute an asset plan that converts your analog and CR X-ray systems to digital.
4. How do you think the new legislation will impact providers short-term and long-term?
